Sun Power Yoga is a Modern Contemporary School of Yoga that specialises in deep intensive training through their teacher training centres.
The founder Anne-Marie Newland has trained and studied many of the traditional forms of yoga practice including Sivananda yoga in which she is qualified working with Swami Vishnu Devananda back in 1984, Iyengar yoga (though not as a teacher)and studied the art of Astanga from various well known teachers here and in the States.
What is SUN POWER YOGA?
Sun Power Yoga is an eclectic mix of three styles:
- Dynamic Hatha for Alignment.
- Sivananda Yoga for Subtle Mind and Breath work.
- Astanga Vinyasa for Heat, flexibility and stamina.
What is so different about this blend?
It has taken courage and vision to break from some traditional ties and to create a style that respects the ancient philosophy of yoga yet take it into the future and into growth and change.
Everything must change, that is the law of the universe and Yoga is no different.
Change does not mean losing anything it just means opening to a different way of seeing things and not being stuck. Isn’t that what yoga practice is all about?
As Erich Schiffmann’s book title confirms.... ‘Yoga... moving into stillness.’
And as I teach my students I remind them that movement is breath and therefore life and life must change for you to grow.
Our teacher training is unique. It has taken us some time as a school to see how unique, Most traditional and even some new school do not allow for a deep acceptance of creative input. We actively encourage our teachers to explore their own creative flair in planning and executing their Sun Power Yoga classes.
Sun Power Yoga has a sound basis and structure. We begin and end in a logical way. We allow lots of creative individual input in the middle area of our class planning. As a school we do not wish to produce an army of look-alikes and sound-alikes. Our school is about inclusion, inclusion from the aspect of personal practice and the needs of both our teachers and our students.
Our classes and teachers are well known for their ability to cater for all abilities and disabilities right there in class, a mix of energy, lives and individual needs.
Inclusion Yoga is what we pride ourselves in.
