What is Sun Power Yoga?
We practice Vinyasa Krama, the sequencing of asana/postures in our own unique blend and train our teachers to be creative, inspiring and knowledgeable, and to find their own way that allows them to teach with their heart, hand and eye.
Sun Power Yoga is an eclectic mix of 4 traditional styles of Yoga
- Hatha Yoga For Theory, Philosophy And Classical Asana
- Iyengar Yoga For Alignment And Posturing
- Sivananda Yoga For Subtle Mind And Breath Work
- Astanga Yoga For Heat, Flexibility And Stamina
Anne-Marie our Founder developed Sun Power Yoga on her mat during her daily practice. She trained with Iyengar in the 70’s but felt there was something missing.
Then in 1983 she trained with Swami Vishnu Devananda at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Val Morin Canada and something came alive, the Spiritual aspects of Yoga. She qualified in 1984 in India at the Sivananda Centre Neyyar Dam.
In 2000 Anne-Marie continued to study the work of the American Astanga Yoga teachers Beryl Bender Birch and Bryan Kest. The flowing grace of Astanga finished the spark missing from her practice.
As an ex-professional Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz Ballet dancer the flow suited her perfectly. So putting all she had trained at over many years her own practice developed and she began to teach her own unique blend.
Someone asked her what they were learning, as they loved her classes; Sun Power Yoga she replied. Students soon asked to be trained as Sun Power Teachers. So the SHALA/school was founded and the rest is history!
